About Small Worlds

Small Worlds was an online virtual world and social network service created by Outsmart Games, launched in 2008. Players could create avatars, build and decorate their spaces, interact with other players, and engage in various activities such as missions, mini-games, and quests. The game was free-to-play but offered a VIP membership for enhanced features and customization options. At its peak, Small Worlds had a significant user base and integrated features from social media platforms, allowing users to share experiences and content from sites like YouTube and SoundCloud.

The game featured seven skill paths—arena, artist, crafting, explorer, farming, gamer, and social—each with unique leveling systems. Players could engage in PVP shooting games, craft items, and grow plants to level up. Despite its popularity, Small Worlds faced declining user numbers and financial struggles, leading to its shutdown in April 2018. The rise of mobile gaming and the dependency on Adobe Flash Player were significant factors in its decline.

In an attempt to revive the community, the developers worked on a new project called TownCenter, which was supposed to retain the core principles of Small Worlds. However, the new game did not gain enough traction, and the project was ultimately discontinued in 2021. The closure of Small Worlds left a dedicated fanbase disappointed, highlighting the challenges faced by virtual worlds dependent on outdated technology and shifting market trends.
